2009 GL 320 Turbo needs to be replaced at 34,000 miles

Bought it new last year, the car is about 14 months old. This is an expensive repair, $5,000+ estimate, and mercedes will not cover it (did not do the 25,000 mile service- had been meaning to but put it off)

Anyway, the mechanic said the engine is filled with sludge and it plugged up the turbo and destroyed it. The questions I have, since MB will not cover it under warranty, does this mean my new car is now out of warranty forever since i missed that service?

Also, is there a way to get it repaired any cheaper?

Live in farmington hills, MI...

Thanks in advance for any replies...

No, shouldn't void the whole bumper to bumper warranty. I wouldn't count on any engine repairs though. How many oil changes had you done in the 34k miles?

So you had oil change at about 10,000 and now at 34,000 you have the sludge?
I still think good oil should not do it, but you are in the mercy of the stealer. Also wouldn't hurt to go to independent shop for second and even third opinion.
Turbos are rebuildable, but this is a job for qualified person only. When Ford dealer dropped a clamp into my turbo and they deny responsibility -they supplied me with $1,700 estimate. I was able to buy compressor wheel for $70 and DIY.

That sounds more like it.

Anyway, Oil change was done at 5000 miles and then again at around 15,000 miles. I missed the 25k oil change - turbo is now caput. no warranty repair.

Do you have the receipts?
Per my knowledge the same engines used around the World do have 40,000 km oil change intervals and are doing just fine. Howcome yours got such a bad sludge at almost the same interval? Get a sample of oil send to Blackstone.

All work was dpne at Mercedes dealership
So yes I have receipts but what they are saying is that I went
Didnotdo the25kservice (essentially an oil change and flush of adblie system)
and engine is now hosed.

Mercedes will not cover it period.

So I am nowcalling on a rebuild. Looks like I can get oneinstalled under 2k

That is what happens when you neglect your car. Nearly 20k miles between oil chances is insane! No wonder the oil turned to sludge. Dino oil cannot last that long. A good synthetic might be able to. I would advise you to sell the truck after you get it fixed. A Mercedes is not for you.

if your engine is full of sludge the turbo is not the only thing needed. you need to clean the engine entirely if the sludge hasnt caused engine damage. if the sludge is that bad that is destroyed your turbo, $5000 isnt going to fix anything. also a benz turbo cant be rebuilt, there isnt any parts available to rebuild it, a turbo can only be purchased as a unit. unless you start trying to buy outside parts and seeing if it will work, that is another issue. and again i have seen cars come in with sludge that there services were performed on time or were missed by 1000 miles or so and mb covered the repairs. but mb will deny repairs considering you went 20k miles over the limit.

You sound like a mechanic. Yes, the dealership said that the engine would have to be cleaned. What would you think is the best course of action?

That is not good, I was worried there might be more extensive problems that pop up. I went 9,000 miles over my scheduled service, not 20k miles.
