the "replace brake pad" message just came on in my clk. How much longer can i drive?
i drive 20 miles each way to work and home... is it ok if i change it on the weekends and drive it thursday and friday? (including today thats going to be 100 miles total)... is it safe? or do i need to go into the shop now?
The sensors are about 2-3 mm from the metal plate, while new pads are about 8-9 mm thick. Even with safety zone I can drive 5000 miles after the light come on, but than with my driving the pads last me for about 100,000
Can anyone please how much brake pads and labor cost on 2003 clk 320? how much at the dealer vs independent shop? also how much for just the parts? Thanks
Shop around. Prices can be different by triple fold for the same parts.
I bought Akebono pads on Amazon. For OEM -AutohousAZ is good place. Some internet dealers like MB of Anaheim have good prices as well.
Typical dealers and indy abuse is forcing the customer to replace the rotors as well.
During pad replacement -rotors take just seconds to replace, while labor and parts markup makes pretty nice kudos for the shop.
I would take the wheels off and check the pads to see how much life is left. The sensor could be malfunctioning and you could be trashing perfectly good pads.
I don't even know how to change a tire let alone take a wheel off nor do I have the tools. I also don't have any friends (anti social) or family to help me. I am just going to take it to this shop that I know and somewhat trust.
