Air pump noise

When I go to get into my 08 E320 CDI, I notice a sound like a small air pump running before I even start the car. The sound only lasts for a few seconds and then stops. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello,, alot of time a pump will kind of vibrate when you just set it on wood. Have you tried buying one of those no slip mats,,they don't cost but a couple of dollars, and there made of kinda like rubber so it absorbs the little bit of vibration that all pumps have. Actually a new pump shouldn't make any noise other than the vibration, which makes it sound loud. Unless the rubber seals inside it are bad. Even if it's new these can get hard and get cracks in them. You can just take the cover off and look and see if either one is cracked. If it is,, you can go to the store where you bought the pump, or any store that carries aquarium supplies and they have them,, you just unscrew the ones in the pump and replace them. Oh and using only one side of a dual pump, as long as the other side is closed,, won't make that noise,,it just gives the one line more airflow. I'd check those rubber gaskets first, and get you a little rubber pad. It really does cut down on the vibration noise. Hope this helps

According to your profile your E320CDI is a 2006 and NOT a 2008 and if that's the case, the sound you hear is the EBC Brake system pump getting your brakes ready. This is normal.

If it bugs you and you're still under warranty there's a DTB under which you can get a replacement hose with a more effective "sound filter," but don't count on it being total silence afterward. You can pay for it after warranty, of course.

The pump is activated simply by opening a door, and this is why extra caution is required changing brake pads on this car.
