Hi Everyone,

I came across this forum when I was searching Google for instrucitons on how to repair an analog speedometer. From the threads I read, it looks like a there's a lot of knowledge here, and I would be happy to help out where I can.
I currently own a brown 1974 450SL (W107 in MB speak) that I bought in 2001 as a low budget mid life crisis purchase. I have also owned a 1982 turbo diesel sedan (W123 I think). However, it suffered a catastrophic failure when a hose to the oil cooler burst when I was travelling 65 mph on an interstate. The engine was cooked in the two minutes it took me to figure out what happened. Bye bye car.
The 74 was in relatively good shape when I bought it, and I have slowly been restoring it mechanically. Here is a partial list of the things I replaced
  1. starter motor
  2. master brake cylinder
  3. exhaust Y pipe
  4. windsheld wiper motor
  5. brake rotors
  6. radio
  7. intake air plenum and manifold gaskets
  8. intake air hoses
  9. electronic ignition module
  10. coil
  11. rear shocks
  12. all brake pads
  13. distributor cap and spark plug wires
I am in the final phases of the mechanical work before I start on the body. Except for a wiring problem with the rpm sensor in the distributor, it runs like new. I will download photos when I retrieve them from my computer.

Also, there's a get together (GTG) relatively close to you coming up next month. Why don't you try to make it and meet a whole bunch of fellow M-B enthusiasts?

Slightly? Most of us are way past that point.

When I die, I want to go quietly in my sleep, like Grandpa.
Not screaming, like the people in his car.

Nobby is still trying to figure out why he has a recurlation switch and if it works.

I have the switch. I never said whether it works or not 'cause I don't know OR care.

Welcome Chief.
