1988 300E Rear Deck Removal Help

I was going to remove the rear carpet deck to have it re-conditioned and dyed back to it's original silver color, but before I started tugging and pulling on 22 year old sun weakened parts, can somebody tell me the steps to remove the rear deck?

I'm new in here, but bought my 1988 300E brand new for $43,000 when I made Captain in the Air Force at Nellis AFB at age 27 making $29,000 a year base salary. Smart huh? After I finally paid it off, I vowed to keep it for the rest of my life! At 22 years and 235K miles, so far so good.

Just doing the cosmetic work to make it look like it did when I bought it in January 1988. Thanks guys.

This is a great resource and very worthy of a bookmark: Online, Model 124 Maintenance Manual Index. It's the complete factory service manual with an improved index and valuable additions "how-tos" found in the Misc. section. It's hosted by one of the members here.

Removing the rear deck, they call it the hat rack, looks pretty straightforward. Other than the rear pillar, there doesn't appear to be any pesky plastic clips that might break.
Welcome and good luck with this. In the future, you would do well to query the W124 E,CE,D,TD Class Discussion Forum, which is dedicated to your particular model.
