I have an automatic '85 190E. For a few weeks whenever I started the car, and had it in Park/Neutral the engine would rev and the rpm meter would shoot up until I shifted gears. Then it would jerk and slow down.
Then yesterday as I was trying to leave I put the car in reverse and it started going forward. The same happened for Neutral, Drive, 3 and 2.
So I turned off the engine and put it in Neutral so I could push it back to go forward. When I was actually able to get it moving I pressed the gas and the rpm went up, but the car wouldn't go above 20 (at best).
I checked the Tran fluid and it was fine. A friend said it may be a sensor.
Anybody have any ideas?
