Sorry to hear that you have to save pennies. Money in Argentina and property in FL is down the drain.

What major car failure did you suffer from using 87 octane gas?

Okay, so if you don't care about what other members have written (in more than one thread as well) why did you ask?

Long story shortened, it's up to the owner how they want to treat or abuse their car. Long live freedom of choice.

The bottom line is, to get optimal performance and mileage, use premium. I occasionally use mid grade, but use premium most of the time. The car is designed to retard the timing due to preignition and knocking but I would never use low grade.

I actually get optimal performance with mid-grade in my M103--mileage improves 1-2 mpg while all other measures remain the same and no knocking even under hard acceleration. I have confirmed this by tracking my mpg with a spread sheet over the last year. I run multiple tanks of 93 and then multiple of 89. My driving habits and routes are very consistent. The results are unambiguous.

Most of the comments about octane on this forum are opinion based or cite the owner's manual. I agree that the manual is usually the best guidance, but experience indicates otherwise in my case.

Burn what makes you feel best.

Geez, is it so hard to understand English? I asked opinions from anyone who has tried using 87 with colder plugs. If you have not, why are you writing?

My apologies, dear sir. I mistook this for a public forum. Again, my apologies.
