Post Raoul Hurley

560 SEC owner in Memphis.
Just joined. Had my 560 SEC ('89) since '93 and can't part with it.
I don't understand why the value isn't higher on this soft-riding, hard-driving German-built muscle car. It's super comfortable, super fast and sexy. I'm 67 years old, and wish I'd had this car when I was 30, or single.
Having beginnings of tranny troubles, but has 160K on it.
Question: Could I have the top cut off to make it a covertible and still have the frame & body strength to hold up?
Looking forward to more forum info.

You are right on, Raoul. Mercedes made exceptionally solid cars in those years, and they are worth more than the car-value reports show just because they are fun, dependable, beautiful and fast. With the braking/low gear available, people are shocked to see how fast they are off the line. Yet the car seems more sedate.
Mine's white with palamino leather. Everything is stock---the way it came, and the way it should stay, in my opinion. Anyway, at least there's now a reply to my first post.

You seemed concerned by the value of your w126 SEC.

It has been labelled as a modern classic, and its value will grow with time, provided you have a well maintained example.

Not however if you chop its top. It will become worthless... and yes, the body frame will loose its structural integrity.

I have seen one or 2 of this model topless, and thought they looked nice. I don't know if the factory produced a convertible version of the W126. Anyway, thanks elbeik for the positive feedback on value. I have a few minor issues that need to be taken care of (like the roof mechanism) but overall my SEC is in very good condition.

There has been some third parties and tuners that did the conversion. Not the factory though.
