"If you cannot locate the code on a slip of paper in your owner's manual packet (probably in whatever booklet addresses operation of your radio), see your dealer with your VIN and proof of ownership.
You and others may have indeed just replaced a battery, and not know where to find the code. Unfortunately, every thief who just stole a Benz radio has "just replaced his battery." Providing the proof of ownership to the dealer to get the code helps to prevent exploitation of the forum by thieves.
If you bought your car from you dealer, or if you have established a business relationship with him, he will have your name associated with your VIN in his computer, and may give you the code over the phone."
