transmission e320 2002 stationwagen

car not working says oil leaked onto harness(wire) and damaged tcu and burnt plate in is 8 yrs old with 154,000 it worth putting $6400 per dealer to fix all this?aq friend owes me a favor can get me used transmission for 1500 and can install for $775.the wire harness can be cleaned but what can be done about tcu?is it ever fixable/ can it be cleaned?if not can u by a tcu used somewhere or does it have to be calibrated to my car only via from dealer?should i just fix burnt plate in transmission or replace whole transmission?please advise...

you should not need a whole transmission. yes the conductor plate leaks and the fluid actually sucks into the harness and into the tcu. once there is fluid in there it will never be the same. you need to replace the conductor plate (not whole valvebody), tcu and the harness should be available seperate.

Another reason to service the transmission every 50,000 miles or so. Maybe the fluid is in fact good for life (don't buy it), but by servicing the transmission, one can at least get a chance to look at things like this and pick up on a problem before the transmission is toast.
