Need advice/direction on used 2005 E55 AMG

Hi. I just test drove a privately for sale 2005 E55 AMG with 42000kms (25200 miles). Extraordinary vehicle. Never had a Benz (or any European vehicle) before. Always performed my own repairs when warranty ends. I am looking for info in regards to reliability and DIY repairs. The only issue I am concerned regarding the car I tested is that the valve train is noisy. Not what i expected from a Benz. Is this normal for this "race" engine? Solid lifters? Any other opinions would be helpfull. I can afford the car and will likely not even drive it 5000kms per year. Benz dealer is 1-1/2 hours away. Will be driven for long road trips (vacations). I am concerned regarding reliability. Thank you.

If you are looking for reliability, then this is not the car for you. 03-06 E class anything should be avoided. Everything from the electronics to the suspension can and will fail, and will cost you big bucks at a dealer 1.5 hours away to repair. When (not if) the suspension fails, it will leave you stranded. The tow truck bill for 1.5 hours is going to be steep, then you have the $1000++ suspension repair bill on top of that.

The same as above is often applied to 99 models and look who is driving one
All models did have some baby teeth like SBC or electronic glitches, but W211 (the model in question) section has very low traffic on this forum. Meaning the owners rather drive their cars, than spend the time talking about repairing them.
E55 is high maintenance car, so don't expect it to be cheap, but great cars. Go to appropriate section and read what actual owners say.
