ABC Suspension issue, finally happened to me :(

So, after reading numerous threads on ABC failure, here I go now. I have an S55 2001, with 140,000 miles.

I've searched and know a bit about this problem, and will be taking the car in on Monday...but can anyone give me an idea as to what happened/price to fix?

Here it is: I was driving, and stopped at a gas station. About 1 minute after I stopped, I hear a crack, and immediately hydraulic fluid starts to gush out of the car and leak all over the place, like massive amounts of it. The red "ABC Drive carefully" light came on, the car is still the same height.

I did not drive it at all, and immediately called a flat bed truck, and had it towed to my house. Now what exactly happened? What could that "crack" sound be? Am I in for a big repair?

I know this topic gets repeated, but I did not find the answer to this specifically so I'd appreciate so comfort/insight while I nervously await what can happen!

Here's a drawing of the hydraulic components in your ABC.

The crack you heard could be from the fracture of a hydraulic line anywhere in the system. Or maybe a seal on one of the 4 struts or the valve units. With the car up on a hoist it will be easy for a tech to find the failing component.

The crack you heard was the main pipe from the ABC tandem pump bursting and it used to be a common problem, they have since been reinforced to avoid this unpleasant happening. When the pipe goes, it goes with a crack or a pop sound but very loud.

In 2007 the recall was done on my car, and the new hose put in place - but I guess it cracked anyway! The back of the car is now on the rear tires, is that normal because all of the oil leaked out? Or is it more broken than I thought?

I'm taking it in monday via flatbed...hopefully it won't be a horrible bill, I'm taking it to an indy that I use often.

Well, I got it figured out and fixed. Apparentely one of the hoses going to the back of the ABC suspension gave out, and that's what caused this. Everything else is fine.

Total cost to fix: $270 with labor and parts. I'm relieved!

I have roadside assistance, so the toll truck didn't cost anything.
