Unimog 1980 Case MB4/94 U900
I am looking at buying a unit that's been sitting in a pasture for the last 6 yrs with the transmission out of it. The tranny was removed, disassembled, inspected, then put in boxes etc. The problem with it, as the seller sees it, is that the unit was left idling for days at a time during the winter and the top shaft eventually wore to the point that the truck was taken out of commission and, literally, put out to pasture. My questions are; should I just pass on this unit completely ($5000.00 firm), should I try to find a different tranny (which may be in a somewhat similar shape), should I try to find a shaft to replace the worn one and rebuild the tranny with what the seller has managed to get in boxes and HOPE he didn't miss any pieces???
Is prolonged idling that hard on the transmissions on these units?
Any input would be very welcomed, Duane
