EZS Removal Help

Can someone offer some help please. MB want a stupid amount of money to replace my ignition EZS that is playing up. On the web I have found a website that can repair the whole unit but I have no idea how to remove it. I took out the instrument cluster thinking I might be able to get to it however there is a plastic case surrounding access. Does anyone know how I access the ignition lock to remove the EZS or the whole unit. Thanks

the ring around the front of the eis holds it in place. there is a special tool to remove it, the ring has notches in it that corrospond to the special tool. if your strong enough you can turn it or use a screwdriver but will damage it.

Sorry about my stupidity but once I remove the ring does the unit slide out of the slot where the key is instered ? Seems quite a small hold for a pcb to be pulled out of ?

EIS = Electronic Ignition Switch = EZS = Elektronischer Z√ľndstartSchalter

no it doesnt just come out, it either has to be pulled out from the bottom of the dash or through the cluster area. each car is different.

Thanks for the help. So I use the tool to loosen the ring then the module will freely pull out from underneath or the dash.

Hi, I have had a similar problem with the EZS. Which is the "web site" that can repair it? Thanks!

WARNING. I had to deal with ignition on 97 model that had blade key with electronic chip and MB is having ingenious blockade mechanism. With any tampering the blockade goes into permanent lock and the only solution seems to be cutting it off, what is lot of work. One member in W210 posted a trick how to reset the blockade, but it is ... tricky.
So I assume the EZS is having similar blockade and what seem as easy job might easily turn into disaster.
Don't even touch the ignition unless you fully understand what you are doing, or better cut your leg and take it to the dealer.
