Auto Transport Companies - THESE GUYS SUCK!

#1 First Class Auto Transport
#2 Sawgrass Auto Transport
#3 feel free to add to the list

I contacted First Class, a broker, to place an order for shipping a vehicle east coast to west coast, this was 2 weeks ago. They were able to pick up on the next day ( that seemed impressive) but went down hill from there. They contracted thru Sawgrass Auto Transport which is the actual trucking company.

Neither company could give me any kind of an approximate delivery day until 12 days later when the driver called at nighttime for delivery. I will not accept delivery at night and neither should anyone else. I'm going on the 6th false delivery date so far, ranging from 7 days to ? Still waiting.

DON'T GET ME WRONG, they do a couple things very well.
First Class efficiently charges the $150. deposit as soon as the vehicle is picked up.
Both companies are very good at apologizing for their inefficiency.

This is the short version, I may post the whole story possibly. Later.

I do work a bit in shipping and it is sensitive issue.
You can have car personally delivered from coast to coast in 3 days by single trailer door to door for over $3000.
You can get the price lowered by letting owner-operated car carrier to take your car with 8 others, but since he will zigzag to get all those cars -the delivery will take longer.
Price can be below $1000.
Than you can have the car delivered by big brokers, who will have the car kicked from terminal to terminal for unspecified amount of time. That usually is the cheapest, but not necessary.
Bottom line -it all comes to the person who does final delivery that makes the biggest impression. Some drivers working for big companies are very professionals, some are not. What lot of customers don't understand is, that drivers working for big companies don't make much more above minimum wages. Don't expect too much from such unappreciated job.

I'm glad to see that you are not accepting the car at night. That is a big no-no, unless you have lots of halogen lights. Call them and tell them that day time delivery is the only option.

Finally got delivered at noon today. It looked to be in same condition as when picked up just real dirty, but that's expected. They've been in the area since sunday and were just able to do a daytime delivery today. It was about time. Later.

Well, washed it on thursday eve. and noticed a couple things that weren't right. Checked it out real good on friday and there is evidence that there was some rear roof repair and fresh repaint.

Then there is the louder than usual exhaust sound which I just figured was a hole in the muffler. I checked the downpipe on sat. and discovered it was broken, today sun. jacked up the car and inspected the underneath and there are obvious scratches and heavy scrapes on the chassis and especially on the exhaust pipe which is definately evidence for the broken down pipe.

Contacted Sawgrass on fri. they said that after contacting the driver they will call me back, also emailed First class because I want documentation not just verbal from them since they are the company I originally have the contract with, then called the driver but of course he did not answer and his mail box is full.

We'll see how this goes. Later.

You have convinced me that I would much rather make a road trip than ship my car.

Do you have high definition photos of every part of the car before shipping to prove that the damage was done during shipping?
