New here and New to MB Diesel
I live in New Mexico Albuquerque Santa/Fe area. Along with the Vanagon, old MB diesels are really popular with the tree hugging and hippie crowd in Norther NM. I always wanted one of the old ones and just got a 1983 300D. Owned by an 80 year old lady who may have moved here from the east coast. I have also been needing a car for a daily driver.
The car is not rust free but did start right up, relatively smooth. I drove up to Santa Fe just to see if I can drive her up highway speeds and I was surprised that I got her to 90 mph with room for more. I backed off since i do not know if my oil hoses are even in good shape and cruised at the 75 mph limit. My wife loves the car and my soon to be driving daughter wants it as her first car. Makes me want to resurrect my Vanagon again and get that German drive feeling.
I have a powerstroke diesel and at some points in time looked at or helped fix a 12v Cummins diesel. The MB diesel is really closer to the cummins (or the cummins to the MB). If it did produce 125 hp at 3 liters in 1983, Cummins 5.9 produced 175 or less when it first came out in 1989. I am impressed how ahead MB was at that point in time and probably still is when it comes to diesels
I appreciate all the info I found here already.
