For every S-class made there's maybe 100 or maybe 1000 Chevies made, and I expect you can't get a Chevy fender for $100.

As the OP said, Partstrain has fenders for right about $100 for the driver's side before shipping, even less for passenger--PartsTrain.com - Fender For 2000 Mercedes Benz S430 Base 8 Cyl 4.3L
. With shipping, it'll be right about $190.
The parts are legit, though not MB, and the paint is direct from a dealer. Granted, this will likely not rival the work of a professional shop when completed, but seems reasonable that with care, attention, patience and modest expectations, he can get a satisfactory result. It will almost certainly be better than what he's got now.
