I got an invitation from GM several times (not in last years).
For attending their "owners previews" (usually on Alameda airstrip) where I could drive almost everything popular on the market, like Corvette, Hummer, Jeeps etc, not only they gave me full free lunch, but nice T-shirt, caps and occasionally gifts.
Not only I could take the wife, but they build special courses, where driving Hummer you could grab some dirt just by sticking hand out the window.
The Jeep "sky-view" grade wasn't for everybody for sure.
The best yet was a Jeep with crossed steering rods.
No hat or anything!!!! I did get a coupon that the dealership would pay the taxes if you bought the new turbo. That is it though.
I have to say this though. That dealership in Okemos is as close to an old MB dealership as I have seen in the last decade or so. By old, I mean how customers used to be treated when I went to the dealership with my Dad as a child. The owner of the dealership was there that night and that he was a very down to earth pleasant man. There is something to say about how attitude filters from leadership down. Off topic from the original question but just a thought.

Ditto Mike. I have met the owner of my dealer and chatted with him on several occasions. I'd call him down to earth and pleasant too. He always asks how his people are treating me if there is ever a problem to let him know. Up to now, I haven't felt the need to do that.

$8 bucks on a battery for my key fob. I asked the guy behind the counter to take a picture, so the moment would last longer for me

I made that "mistake" once and bought batteries for my key fob there but I think I paid more than $8.00. The parts guy istalled them for free! That was before I realized there was nothing special about them and WalMart sells perfectly acceptable ones at the jewelry counter for less than $5/pair.

OK, so back to the topic. Twice I spend zero, but never actually had to be there to do it. When I planned to pick up my car - and since I'd be driving right past the stealership, closest one about 80 miles from home, I asked them for a quote to do the trans filter fluid and gasket. They quoted "at least $328 plus tax" not sure about possible max, if that is all that had to be done. What? On Top of that I'd have to leave the car from wed to friday then go back for it.

So I got parts on line, fluid at auto zone and self did it in about half hour for about $70. I'd have to check the receipts, bu tI recall being pleasantly surprised at the cost of having german parts delivered.

Then I wanted another key, having only one and finding they are not duplicated readily. Stealer wanted lots, cannot remember, I would have paid it, but I they required me to drive there to prove I had the car, show title and my driver lic. and pre pay. They still wouldn't mail the key, but would require me to drive back again, so cost of key and paperwork plus 320 miles of driving cost and time.

MBUSA in Irvine calif was nice enough to let me mail the paperwork copies and mail me back keys for reasonable cost.

Bottom line, if have car problems that require a dealer, you all will probably be buying my car cheap on here instead of me using them.

Years ago, I bought some nylon shifter bushings for about $6.80 of course they had to order them. So I paid and they appeared in the mail, shipping was $7.50
These (pre 1972) are still the cheapest cars on the road.
