BY-PASSING THE HEATER CORE/1989 300 C

[Recently, i started hearing very loud noises under my dash on the passenger side, it sounded like "gurggling", and at about that time, i noticed that my heater wouldnt put out any heat, so, im thinking heater core.
Also, my car is overheating.
Heres my question, if my heater core went bad, does it prohibit water circulation, it appears to me that the water isnt circulating throughout the cooling system because it wont make it through the heater core. I want to bypass the heater core, i thinK ive located the 2 hoses that are related to the heater core, (one on each side of the motor), can i just connect those 2 hoses and bypass the heater core all together?

There could be several reasons why coolant wouldn't make it to the heater core. The heater valve/servo could be stuck shut; the aux coolant pump could also be closed up, any any of the tubing along the way.

Bypassing the heater core can be accomplished by connecting the hoses as you describe.

I don't see why not.... btw, I would expect one side of the heat exchanger to go to the block, and the other side to go to the circulation pump (not the water pump).

But why not first do a flush of the system to see if you have sludge in there affecting the coolant circulation?
