I have E320, 2001 model, service light came on ... Would not start immediately, after about couple try's it turn over and after a while the service light turn off...check gas cap to make sure it was close... The car runs like normal just the service light comes on...It happen again while the light was on I went to local auto parts store. Who had a OBD scanner came back with a code (P0335) = "Crank Position Sensor...I have no service manual, I can buy the part locally but cannot afford the manual at this time out of work...Could someone share with me the location of this sensor ... Or is there other checks that can be done to make sure I am heading the right direction in solving this problem...This is not a all wheel drive MB, vehicle has 120K miles at this time. I have to make every penny count at this stage in life. Thanks ....Web
First things first, Web. Please click user cp and edit details to add your vehicle and location to your profile, that is often useful information when you're seeking assistance.
Second, if you'd looked at the post above yours, you'd see that another member had referenced the W210 forum and the excellent DIY stickies that will show you EXACTLY where the sensor is. On your car it's roughly a fifteen minute job.
Third, unless you're buying a Bosch part, I wouldn't buy the part locally (wherever that is for you...again, please complete the profile). If you're in the states and don't mind waiting a couple of days, you can order it online from autohausaz.com, bmaparts.com or rmeuropean.com for the best price. You might have to toss an air or oil filter into your cart to get free shipping.
Last...be sure before you buy the replacement whether you need the single or the double-clip design. The easiest way to tell is remove yours; while it's supposed to track chassis number (last letter and trailing 6 digits of your VIN), there are anecdotal stories of those who are supposed to have one but have the other. Since you often can't return electrical parts, best to be sure.
Good luck, see you in the W210 forum from now on.
