I have a 1997 C230 with 130,000 miles, and I think I'm the third owner. It's getting to be over the hill and I'm scrambling to keep it going!! I came here for help, and have already got a ton. I took my driver's side mirror apart and found the left-right post busted. Glued it and saved at least $400. Good start. Next is the passenger door. When fully open it sticks that way, so I'm going to find out how to take apart the door panel and see what's inside. It's in good shape, and it's a blast to drive. I'll get some pictures. The radio works but the display is all messed up - nothing I can do about that I guess. Had it in the shop a few years back and after $600 of repairs I told him he was done - he said he wasn't - there were lots more codes from the computer to fix - and I said no, you're done! I can't afford the upkeep, but if I could get those codes maybe I could continue fixing things on my own. Can you get parts at junkyards? I could use a new grill and new radio. The finish is a bit scratched in places. I'll look in the maintenance forum for that. Looking forward to being a member here!

Gluing the mirror didn't work. Not going to buy a new one. The piece of bar metal from the door to the chassis came unscrewed from the door - as soon as I find the right screw I can fix that. I'm just going to extend the broken post in the mirror so it will hold the mirror at least a little straight. The only engine code I have is a 170 so I'm going to check for a vacuum hose leak with starter fluid and call it good. I may change the tranny fluid - no idea if or when that's been done....
