87 300E broken middle door hing. Please Help - Mercedes-Benz Forum

87 300E broken middle door hing. Please Help

Hey guys I own a 1987 MB 300E. The past couple of weeks the driver side door has been sticking on me when I open it. Well today I went to close my door and it wouldn't close. I don't know the name of the part but it appears to be a middle hinge, a flat piece of metal, that slides inside the door when you close it. There is a large upper and lower hinge but this one is between them. It has bent and cracked in half so when I attempt to close the door it bends and prevents it. How do I replace it? What is it called? Can I get it at any parts store? Do I even need it? I'm not sure of its function. Seems like the other larger hinges hold the door on. What would happen if I just cut it out so the door would close? Please help. I am having to crawl in through the pasenger side. Here is a pic of the good one on the passenger side.

It's called the check strap.

They all break eventually.

Get a new one.

You can probably get it on line, but I doubt that you can get it locally. I would stop using the door because it can damage the window track and put a dent in the door panel. It is reasonably easy to change but the door panel needs to come off. I you cut it, the door could hit the fender, I got one for my 140 at MB for $35
This is how it is done on a 140
