Something to think about when buying a used MB
I am retired as well so I do know what your talking about when you say that you son't want to put a lot of money into a never ending pit. I know that this is going to sound a little off the wall to a lot of people but"Have you taken a good look on Ebay". Sounds crazy but one of the two MB's that I own I bought off of ebay for an exptrmely reasonable price which was way below retail and barely above the wholesale price. The mileage was low enough and the car was new enough that I was then able to purchase an "Aftermarket" warranty and still came in with thousands in savings. The trick is to make sure that the car you look at is close enough to your location that you can drive over and take a look at it and get the seller to allow you to get it inspected locally so you can get a real picture of the automobiles condition. The one I bought off of ebay is my daily driver and I have had no problems with it other than normal maintenance. I also use a local independant when it comes to getting it serviced which keeps my maintenance cost down.
