Need some help with my W126.

Hey guys, i'm new here. I just inherited a W126 sec amg from my grandfather, and I have a few questions.

First of all, I need more power from it. It is such a pimp looking car, it needs to be able to hold its own. What are some good sites, or am I stuck fabbing stuff?

Second, the engine overheated a little when I was pushing it really hard, so I cut a hole in the hood, and that seemed to help. Will the cut areas rust, or should I paint them? Do the relays burn out easily?

I am in the process of removing alot of the interior. I have stumbled upon alot of unecessary weight in the sound deadining, carpets, climate controls and seat motors. They sure did make theese heavy. I also have almost all the a/c ripped out, I did have to use a sawzall to get the lines thru the firewall out.

Basically the plans are to continue removing interior parts, cut off the mufflers/resenators and cat, and do a 3in side exit. I am also going to cut a few coils as this bitch sits waayyy too high, and needs to scrape. I haso have a blow thru turbo system in the works, but that will be a few months.

One thing I will say, is ever since I spraypainted it flat black (looks sooooo stellar) my grandmother has been acting weird.

Anyways, any help/pointers would be appreciated, along with any info you guys have on the car, as I pretty much no knothing about it. Thanks guys, take it easy on me, i'm a noob. Cheers

Thanks

Go old school. Redo the top so ya got a diamond shaped rear window with a white vinyl roof. Get one of those flying Vee tv antennas. I think you can still buy those twin lit curb feeler setups at Warshaski in Chicago. Two for each wheel well. Need static straps with orange relectors, and mudgaurds with the naked chrome ladies on them.

Maybe some real wide-white-wall tires. Chrome wheels for sure. Very high offset - you want those wheels at least 6" outside the fenders for better cornering.

Then pull out all that useless benz powerplant and driveline stuff. Install a ricer 4 banger with four turbos so you can make 1500 hp at 17,000rpm and no torque at any rpm. Coupled with an Isuzu 3 speed, and you are pimpin.

Spark plugs in the exhaust ends and a windshield washer pump to pump gas in just before the sparks plugs. Man, will that be cool.

Thanks!

LOL.
Acting with chisel and sawzall will not gain you much popularity on this forum for MB lovers
I guess if you don't mind the noise -the sound dampening mats are not really necessary.
The bad news I have to give you -there is no easy way to increase power from those engines and your radiator will probably need replacement due to boiling stone build up. Do the radiator flush to start with and see how much it helps? Or cut another hole in the hood
You don't need the hood anyway. It is just extra weight.

Run without a hood - heat rises, right? Take the windshield and rear window out so all that air flows right through instead of all that horsepower to move the air out of the way.

Thanks!

Thanks guys for the...er... help. lol

The rad is fine, it was the engine bay cooling fan that I took out.

Since my first post, the car has gone a drastically different direction. I've swapped a diesel powerplant in (still benz), cranked up the boost and fuel pressure, removed restrictor plate and now it has some kind of balls. I've also stripped the entire interior of treim bits, carpet, cut half the dash board off, and welded in a full roll cage. The car now has a full 3in downpipe back side exit exhaust (exits just behind rear passenger door) I've already been to the track with it twice.

I do need to do something about the handling now though. Even with three coils cut off of each spring assembly, it handles like a low boat. I'm thinking of ordering some 8 inch, 500lb springs for all four, what do you guys think about that?

Oh a giant plus to the diesel powerplant is, with my side exit exhaust, I can completly cover a sidewalk (and pedestrians) in plumes of thick black smoke

thanks guys

Handling - get those wheels I mentioned so they stick out at least 8" on each side - effectively making the car 16 or more inches wider! Use 280 compound slicks on all 4. Get rid of the springs altogether and run straight jack bolts.

Propane injection for that diesel - rig it up so you can use the windshield washer bought for the spark plug deal to suck up liquid from the bottom of an LPN tank and squirt it directly into the air side after the 27 psi turbo.

You'll have to modify the half shafts in back for all that extra torque - get some black pipe with the id the same as the od of the half shaft. Cut it down the middle and weld the halves to the half shaft. That should do it for ya.

Thanks!
