Dealer Extended Warranty vs 3rd Party Warranty?

Hi everyone,

My 2007 S550 is getting very close to 50k miles so its time to start looking at getting an extended warranty. So I have a few questions overall:

1. By when do I have to purchase a warranty from the dealer (in terms of miles). I read on a thread on this forum that as long as you are below 60k miles you can purchase an extended warranty from the dealer. Is this true?

2. Does anyone know where I can find prices for an extended warranty from the dealer? Or would I have to go there and ask them personally?

3. And most importantly, do any of you use a third party company for an extended warranty such as AA Insurance or Warranty Direct etc... If so, do you recommend using a third party company? And how much were you quoted.

4. How am I supposed to pay for these warranties? I've read in some places that you pay all upfront, and in other places that you put some money down and pay monthly for the rest.

I know those are a lot of questions, but I've heard great things about this forum so I'm sure you all can handle them

In the meantime, here are some pics of the love of my life

and the other one

1. I think you have to purchase it while the new car warranty is still in effect. Same thing goes for extending the CPO warranties.

2. Dealers have a brochure telling you how much it is depending on when you buy it. They cost the least during the 1st 12 months and are prorated each additional year. I'm told these are negotiable so you might want to shop around.

3. I use one but only because I could no longer extend the MB. (car was 7 years old). So far, Fidelity Warranty Services seems to be a good company.

4. I paid for my Fidelity one up front and that was the only option presented to me. Maybe you can work a deal using MB Financial for theirs.

Nice car, good luck, and welcome to the forum.
