Hi from England - just defected from BMW and bought W210 320CDI Wagon

Hi guys, joined your forum to help diagnose a battery drain issue - I've managed to isolate it to the alternator (regulator diodes?) I have seen a post and needed to join to view the diagrams to get in there and isolate where the pesky drain is!

Keep up the good work helping us capable people who just need a bit of advice and guidance.

Just wrapping up my membership - bought a Chrysler 300C diesel (OM642 3.0 V6 CDI) as it was really cheap! - Thought I'd update you guys on the battery drain - it was not the alternator but the coolant pre-heater (to raise the cabin temperature on cold starts) this was on constantly pulling over 1A even after car was locked for 1 hour. I found it by following the +ve red lead from the alternator to the right inner wing (as seen from inside car) and discovering a nasty burnt electronics smell under the air reservoir? I just took the leads off the connector and bolted them together to isolate the heater module (obviously making sure the +12V assembly was well wrapped in insulation tape to stop it earthing). In case you have the same issue Merc dealer told me part no was A0001591104 and would be an eye-watering £335+VAT!! my solution was 20 minutes and 12" insulation tape (plus an extra jumper for the first 5 mins of running time in the winter!)
