I can't believe I'm here
If you'd told me last week that I would be a member of benzworld (heck, I never even heard of benzworld until yesterday), I wouldn't have believed you. But today, sitting in my garage is a 2003 SLK230. Wow! Getting a Benz wasn't even on my radar. Getting a new car (well, new to me) wasn't really on my radar either, but it's here and I have the finance papers to prove it.
Just brought her home. OK, so it was kind of an impulse buy. I'd been looking at cars as my durango just rolled over 104K miles. It's getting kind of tired looking, plus my DH's son scraped the bumper again last weekend. Oh well. anyway, talking to a friend, he tells me about his car (Eclass I think) and a recent accident that crumpled in his trunk, but he barely felt it. I'm thinking, it's a nice solidly built car, maybe I should check it out.
Found one and test drove it this morning. It was okay, but nothing I went WOW, gotta have this one. Came home, found one at a dealer, low miles for the age and okay price. Went to test drive it! OMG! I fell in love and that was before we put the top down, as it was raining. Hubs drove it, two thumbs up. I brought him home as he had plans, checked the finances and received a call from the salesman, they were knocking $4000 off. I'd looked up the blue book and it was listed at the bluebook price. Hmmm, what's wrong with this car, I wondered.
I went back to the dealer, drove it again, this time with the top down. It was great. Carfax checked out ok, not a rental from Florida (as the other one was). Was it meant to be???? Okay, let's check financing. 100% financing (what, I really don't have to put anything down). She's mine and no one's around to share my happiness, so you guys get my long story!
Is it a mid-life crisis car, maybe, but it sure it fun....besides, been there, done that 10 years ago. It's sporty, fun to drive and I look really fine it in (at least in my mind). I know, not the best reasons for buying a car.
Under the hood looked clean, no visible signs of wear, no dings, dents, top works perfectly. Interior shows some wear on the door handle, but otherwise in good shape. It is silver with gray interior. Oh and the AC blows cold (unlike the durango) and in Houston, that's always a plus.
Yes, I know they are expensive to maintain. But I love driving a sporty fun car. My first car was an MG Midget (pain in the butt it was, but I loved driving it). Had the Olds Cutlass (1980), Toyota Camry (1990), Infiniti G20 (loved driving it, except in Houston traffic, manual transmission), Sebring Convertible which was a fun ride, but it got wrecked too many times and the roof leaked. The Ford Van and the Durango, nice to drive, especially on long trips, but also very much family rather than fun. This one....she's all mine and a hoot to drive.
If you made it this far, thanks for reading. I look forward to sharing car experiences with you all and getting your advice if I have problems. I saw the thread on repair shops. If you have any others to recommend in Houston, particularly southwest or downtown, please share them with me.
Thanks so much,
