Considering 2004 E320 4Matic Wagon for $15,500
I'm new to Mercedes. Up until now I've usually bought older used Subarus to drive until they die, or more accurately to drive until the body rusts around them, because they usually don't quit. But unfortunately my current rusted Legacy needs more transmission work than it's worth and I thought it might be time for a more comfortable car.
I happen to know and trust the dealer personally and know this is at his cost, but that doesn't necessarily make it a great deal. Any thoughts?
Plus: Some nice options like heated seats, heated steering wheel, leather, nav, 4matic, etc.
Minus: A little over 100,000 miles
Plus: Immaculately maintained by one owner like clockwork, still somehow looks brand new. Clean bill of health from dealer friend.
Payments and insurance work out nicely for my budget, I'm just very concerned about maintenance. Is this a car that can be reasonably DIY for some repairs? I did a lot my own Subaru repairs, but they're easy to work on.
Some of my friends have been giving me MB repair horror stories.
I know there's always risk of catastrophic expensive failure, but do I have a reasonable shot at less than $2000/year average for maintenance and repairs? If so, then I can fit that in my budget. I also hope to keep this car for many years, so one bad repair wouldn't necessarily be crippling.
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
