Time to buy my first Benz
Yes, another "should I buy it thread" but with a twist.
I've been lurking around for a bit, trying to gain as much insight into my upcoming purchase.
My parents are both Benz owners: 2000 E320 & 1998 CLK320, combined with less than 60k miles. Seriously. I've always loved the styling and vault-like cabin experience. I also know that when repairs do come, they can be costly, and have a fund ready to go. Beyond that, I know that a verifiable service history is a great bonus and a pre-purchase inspection is a must.
That being said, here is the situation that I would love some advice on. I'm trying to decide between three models, which I adore in different ways. I've found specific examples of each that are low mileage, and look incredible.
1. 1990 300E with 57,000 miles. Looks great, but feels a little sluggish. 3 owners. Only issue I noticed was the drivers window stopping 1/4" shy of the top of it's track. (I also found a 1994 420E with 72,000 miles, but I have heard that engine can be a bit noisy)
2. 1999 C230 Kompressor with 59,000 miles. Original owner (private party)with all service records. Brand new tires as well.
3. 1997 E320 with 53,000 miles. One owner trade in. The only downside is that the asking price is about $3,000 more than the other options, which are priced identically.
Please note that all of these are pending inspection, and any findings there will obviously influence my decision.
So, what I'm asking is, style preferences aside, where would you all put your money? I know that these cars aren't all completely comparable but I would be interested in something that will be relatively reliable. I drive about 9000 miles a year, mostly city.
I would love any inisght you'd like to share.
Thanks in advance.
