My wife has a 2001 CLK430. It has two keys [one is a duplicate]. One key will no longer unlock the doors but will start the car and the other one will no longer start the car but unlocks the doors. What can I do to correct this? Thanks from Kona, Hawaii.
Apparently, the key was not made accurately enough.
On all "sidewinder" aka "Lasercut" keys, I always cut keys back to specification, rather than duplicate. Duplicating merely transfers wear, so we discourage it.
Find a legit locksmith. Phone book and internet is full of fake ads from scammers that want your cc info...then they send a hack, who is not a locksmith or legal business at all.... REAL locksmiths can be found from the ALOA FIND A LOCKSMITH site....I wish I could post it here, but most forums frown on URLS.
A locksmith can help when a dealer can not, such as if the locks were changed, and VIN no longer yields key info.
