Question Question about AMG

I'd like to know are all AMG's supercharged. The reason for me asking is I notice that some models with the same size engine have different HP. Example: C63 vs CLK 63, etc. Would I be correct by thinking they share the same block, heads, etc, and the only difference is the blower?

None of the 63s are supercharged.

Some of the 55s aren't.

Cheapo C-class doesn't get as much hp as "bigger" models as a matter of principle. It isn't supercharging that's the difference.

Mercedes seems to avoid super or turbocharging their engines. This way the gas engine can last for 300k without repairs.
A bit strange since the MB turbos on diesel last for a million miles easily.

Using your example, the CLK63 was detuned in some fashion so the HP and I think the torque are both lower than the other 63s. Ask on those forums because there might be some performance chip you can buy for the CLK. Displacement should be the same.

Not for long--Mercedes recently announced that most of its gasoline engines will be turbocharged very shortly--a fuel economy thing.

The 63 engines don't use any form of forced induction (TT coming in the future though).

The difference in the C63 and CLK63 is ECU tune and exhaust system mostly, iirc.

That will be surprising to the folks who own Kompressor versions of the 2.3, 5.5, and 6.3 motors, or the TT versions of the 6.5.

Thanks for all your replies. It's amazing how much HP they get out of a NA motor.

It can vary, for example the early AMG's, like the C43, S55 (2001 and 2002), early CLK55, etc - were all Naturally aspirated engines. Later on, they went to supercharged - like the later S55's and E55's - and then back again to Naturally Aspirated recently. (S63, E63) But now - the trend is towards turbocharging - so that seems like it will be the next big thing.
