Ethanol is not a new thing in gas. Sunoco and a few off brand gasoline have had up to 20%, some more, but it was always posted at the pumps. Engines not prepped for ethanol and getting it are not being helped, and over 20% is short term damaging and very low efficient.

I never had good service from Shell, Chevron and Texaco would be my choices.
Otherwise super with one 375 ml bottle of Techron every 1500-2000 miles is the ticket, and always from a high traffic oil company service station.

A car would show appreciation for preventive maintenance by never leaving his owner stranded.

Defensive Driving is never having to say you're sorry: a true love story between man and machine.

The 12 years old ML320, now driven by our son was always filled up with the cheapest gas in the area. Never had any fuel additives used on it. Runs perfect with about 120k on it and the only repair in 12 years was MAF replacement plus tranny mount.

Ditto to JoeVal about the Techron additive. I use both Chevron fuel and add the Techron every 3000 miles. That's probably overkill and Chevron freely admits you don't need their additive if you use their fuel since it contains some of that anyway.

Just bought a 2009 CLK550. My brother used to work as a mechanic at Fletcher-Jones in Las Vegas and has driven his Mercedes for years. He is emphatic about the benefits of Techron. He will not put anything but Chevron Techron gasoline in his Mercedes.

Techron won't do anything to combat the horrible corrosive effects of ethanol. You need something like Star Tron Enzyme Fuel Treatment. This stuff is sold primary to the marine industry, but it works wonders in cars. It neutralizes ethanol and cleans the gunk out of your fuel system. It also stabilizes gas for storage. I've used it for some time and it seems to work great.

I fill up only at Chevron. From time to time Valero.
As for additives, I use STP Gas Treatment every fill up. 3 for $4 at Target, I think it's a great buy.

I think Obama's gas will be the best when drilling begins off the East Coast.
