94 C280 Key problem

hi i bought a used c280 as my first car

the problem i have is they key use to start the car wont open the doors

next the way i could get into the car was what appears to be an aftermarket keyless remote fob which ran out of batteries

i replaced the batteries but it still does not open the locks of the car

can anyone help?

Sounds like the ignition barrel has been swapped to a used one from another car and door locks have not been changed. You should have had original keys for the doors when you bought the car. At least you can get the correct key to your door locks from the dealer if the door locks are original.

Do you have any manual for the after market remote? Perhaps it would explain if it has a rolling code and needs to be initialised after a battery change (meaning you should get into the car first to get it working).
