New member here,
Got the dreaded cat rattle on my 99 E320. Obviously coming from inside the drivers side rear (main?) cat.
However, after running the engine for only about 2 minutes, the PASSENGER side FRONT cat unit got really blazing hot...none of the other 3 even got warm to the touch. Does this make any sense? Could it indicate a problem with that side as well?
Also, I'm back and forth between repalcing the entire assembly (pipe & 2 cats) on the affected side, or trying to go cheap and buy just the ratlling rear cat and have a muffler shop splice & weld it in for me. I have 125k miles and have never had O2 sensors replaced; should I go ahead and replace them or get a diagnostic first to see if I get fault codes before doing anything?
Thanks for any help,
