Exclamation First Mercedes

I recently purchased my first Mercedes. I have a 2002 CLK 55 AMG Cabriolet with 56,000 miles and completely stock.
I love the car, it is amazing and have been wanting it for years.

However, I have been having problems with it since about500 miles after I purchased it. The Check Engine Light came on and the performance became very very poor, and the car would die when I stopped. Signs pointed to MAF, I have changed that, along with air filters, this did help the issue, but has not cured it. The performance has gotten slightly better, but is definitely not where it should be. It does seem to do much much better in the higher RPM range, 4500rpm+. The engine will cut out completely sometimes when I push the throttle past 50%. When it does accelerate with any power, it is very erratic, power, then no power, then lots of power, then less power, then it might die when you stop.

Very aggrevating, it is making my owning of this masterpiece less enjoyable than it certainly should be.

I am hear in hopes of finding solutions. Please do not hesitate to PM me if you have thoughts on my problem.

Thank you

If the check engine light illuminated, there is probably a code stored. If that happened to me, I would use a code reader to determine the code, run diagnostics/replace the failing part, and clear the code.

At this point, you may wish to note the code, clear it, wait for the code to reappear, and go the “code reader diagnostics/replace part” route.

Hopefully this is unrelated - if the MAF you just replaced came from a less than trustworthy source (for example, e-bay), the new one may be crap.

The CEL is now out, but seems to come and go from day to day.

- Also hoping it is unrelated, my new MAF did come from Ebay.

When the CEL does come on the code points to MAF using OBD II.
The car cuts out really bad when I push the gas down. Essentially next to no torque until very high in the RPM's when all torque comes.

Since I have changed the MAF, would the computer need to be reset? My Dad is trying to convince me to unhook the battery to "reset" the system and recognize the new part, but we are completely new to Mercedes.

I appreciate feedback very much.
