380 SL Fuel delivery issue??

I just bought a new project today; a rough '85 380SL. I am really looking forward to getting this on the road! The guy I bought it from had bypassed the fuel pump relay to get it to start when he wanted to demo it. The first time I spoke with him the indicated relay was bad. Today he said someone told him the relay was probably fine, but it had an automatic cutoff if the fuel was too low as a safety issue. The car sat for about 3 years and the tank is basically dry.

Well, I went to start it to move it off the trailer and could not get it to fire. it wouldn't even turn over. That is one heavy car to push! The battery has plenty of juice and jumping it did absolutely nothing. It smells very gassy, and I'm trying to figure out the issue. A friend indicated that there is a shunt that may need to be reset, but I don't know where it is or how to reset it.

Does anyone know about this shunt...where it's located...how to reset it? Any other suggestions on things to try?
