Synthetic or normal oil for my diesel ?

Just got a 1991 300D 2.5 turbo. The car is in very good condition and only has 125K. It has been running on regular engine oil and my question is due to the age of the vehicle and the mileage is there too much built up engine sludge to negate the benefits of switching to synthetic.

If the consensus is it's not too late to switch, any recommendations...I live in Atlanta, Georgia where there are somewhat mild winters and long periods of excessive heat and humidity. Thanks

Ask a dealer what oil they recommend for your car. My feeling is if it has always been running conventional oil then stick with that and the specifications (or the current equivalent) that the owner's manual tells you to use.

Its personal choice. I run synthetics even in my lawnmower. They are cheap enough and supplies much better protection than dino oils.
The only exception is my Ford diesel. It takes 15 quarts and I never drive the 5000 miles interval in one year anyway so extended run on synthetic would run me well over time limit.
