1997-1999 500 Coupe Seat Adjustment

I am considering purchasing a 97-99 S500 Coupe. I drove one the other day and was surprised that the driver’s seat seemed narrow - the side bolsters were pushing me forward. I'm tall but not overly large - I was very surprised that I did not slide right in.

I did not find any adjustments for the seat width (side bolsters in or out).
Looking at pictures of other cars I see there are separate buttons on the lumbar adjustment section on the seat base. The car I drove, a 96, did not have any separate buttons - I am wondering if there is any way to adjust the seat back "width”.

thanks in advance - not fitting in the seat took the joy out of the drive

The S500 you are considering is a W140 chassis. There is a forum on this site for owners of that chassis in all its forms. There will be owners of the coupe version there who can tell you if the bolsters on the seats adjust.

Assuming you have original seats, the active seat option (I suppose it was available on the W140--it is on the W220) may be what you have and I believe the bolsters are adjustable. If you have the standard seats, I don't believe they have adjustable bolsters, but the guys in the W140 forum can tell you.

It's hard to imagine the seats in an S-class are uncomfortable for anyone. The W140 and W220 are two of the most comfortable cars ever built. I think you have an adjustment issue that should be easy to fix.

Good luck.
