And I should add that if it fails a particular test more than once we can ask the computer why and it will give a list of possible answers.

Also they should be able to give you a print out of the test results and explain the results to you, if you ask them nicely.

some early 722.9's tripped the speed sensor code because of a loose reluctor wheel internal on the trans. not good news. I will check and see if there is a tsb on your car, the dealer should have known that when it was under warranty.

looks like they have removed the speed sensor ring as a possible cause.
speed sensor codes 2200, 2201, 2767, 2768
tsb s-b-27.50/59g replaced tsb s-b-27.50/59f (which listed speed sensor ring)
new tsb says replace "electrahydraulic control module" aka valve body.
date of new tsb 5-5-2009
date of older 1-2009

I recalled your problem as I had one come in for repair prior to the newer tsb, removed valve body and checked the sensor ring for wobble and tightness, seemed ok replaced valve body and car fixed. That was some time ago perhaps the electronic section is available now without buying complete valve body. not sure

MB in their wisdom only sell the whole unit ie valve body and control unit so go figure.

Thanks, eric and normanataa.

I was in the dealership today but could not reproduc the issue with the forman. It did not happen very often and it was not too bad when it happened. Maybe it is just normal in S mode. I did not have any problem while driving with C mode, which does not have the 1-2 upshift. The work statment states that the adaptation was passed so I guess it means OK most likely. I will keep driving it to see how it goes.

I have 1 year warranty for the new valve body.

Is this a mechanical fault or an electrical defect (sensors, software) which eventually leads to a mechanical failure ?

In the latter case, all the fluid changes in the world will not stop the transmission from destroying itself.

... and this important discussion continues.

Fluid changes are very important with this transmission and there are only a few known mechanical problems, the real problem is with the control module which can only be changed with the valve body. MB's self destruct mechanism at work again.

hava a similar problem on my CLS350 - 2005 with 7Gtronic mounted.

when I am driving on C-mode - no problem. Sometimes the gears doesn't want to change- turn off/turn on and error disappears.

when I am driving on S-mode - problem. Between 1st and 2nd gear there is some pause in the torque - I mean I am accelerating, going up to one level of RPM - 2500-3000, PAUSE, then change gear with some strange noise.

PROBLEM OCCURS only between 1st and 2nd gear. Anyone help?

Fault occurs and when you switch off and on the fault code is cleared so all is fine until it happens again. These are soft fault codes and it means the problem is intermittent. BUT it does mean a big problem is coming, have the car checked with SDS soon.

okay. i will do SDS as soon as possible.

what could it be? probably torque converter or shortage of ATF?
before i bought the car - second hand from official dealer at low miles, was asking god help me to find one which will be without problem on that sticky torque converter, but most probably god has missed to give me the right one ((
