Confirmed: COMAND CD-ROM in drive does drain battery

According to the MB WIS for my CLK, under ther topic 'Checking quiescent current consumption' I read the following:

Switch off all electrical consumers, and measure quiescent current at the battery terminals.

1. Remove transmitter/ignition key.
Items 2 to 9. Switch off various items, including COMAND.

10. Remove CD-ROM from COMAND drive.

Yes but this is only from a malfunction where the device does not enter full sleep in case the DVD-ROM is inserted, even if it should. You should find advice how to fix this either from a fresh WIS or TIPS. If the related control units are fine, then the it would not matter if the DVD drive is inserted or not.

Several owners have figured out this issue and reported about it. Some consider it sufficient to take the DVD out when the car is parked (for a longer period) but this is very inconvenient and the car really should be fixed in this case.

DB - thanks for your comments.

You may well be right above, but I am very surprised if the WIS includes an instruction based on what might be a fault situation, ie, a failure to get into sleep mode. I do not have a list of those systems that are switched into sleep mode, but there must be quite a few.

You referred to DVD-ROM based Satnav. Does that behave differently (in this respect) to the earlier CD-ROM system that I have?

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the W211 with a separate Navigation DVD drive. I remember other models having issues with Comand not entering sleep mode. You must be referring to a CLK with a CD based head unit? I have not studied that model really at all. But one cannot consider it acceptable that the CD would need to be removed when the car is parked, it isn't acceptable for any model.

Removing the CD could be a reasonable temporary solution but there must be a SW update or some other solution for a final fix, perhaps it was not available at your version of WIS?
