been a member over at SLKworld for almost 2 years, have had my Mars Red SLK 350, leased, since June of 08.
Now that Ive had my first Benz, I just can't see ever owning anything less! Completely spoiled!
I decided to come over and say Hi, get some information, share etc, join this community, as it looks very soon, I will be upgrading to my dream - a SL 63..or maybe even a SL 65.
I was hoping to get some feedback and experience on that choice actually.
I have thought about the SLS as well, but there remains a thorn for such; I have a hard time imagining no Retractable Hard Top! I currently live in Largo FL, next to Clearwater. I Love my convertible. I am considering heading west, N Cal or WA, just the same, I love my Benz hard top Convertible now, can't imagine not having it. The other part that is a slight draw back on a SLS is the SL's extra Luxury, that it seems, only from the web of course, the SLS is more about supercar, a little less luxury, and I love the combo of performance and luxury of the SL AMG's.
That brings me to the choice of 63/65. Of course there is the expense, but I believe it will be with in my budget.
Im inclined to go 63. Thoughts being less maintenance expense, maybe more reliable too? Ild love to hear feedback if any owners. Im also planning a nice leisure drive about the US this summer, think the SL is more suited for long trips, daily driving etc? The main desire of the 65 over the 63 for me is the bonus raw torque of the 65.
The other (2) questions; go for the AMG Performance Pkg? Seems like its necessary, for the LSD if nothing else, although I know Kleeman has a nice one.
And Wheels / Tires. I like the AMG wheels fine, but really, need to personalize the car a bit, and wheels seem like a good choice.
HRE, Kleeman, RennTech. Main interests with a wheel is minimal spokes for easier cleaning, my 09 has the 18 spokes, and those sux to keep clean of break dust. And if I do wheels at the start, stay 19 or bump to 20?
And overall city / roadtrip tires? Bridgestone once made a tire, UNI-T back in the day on my old Saturn, that really had superior wet traction. Any recs on a good wet /dry tire?
Thats enough for my hello post
Thank you for any experience shared! And you'll see me here more often now =)
So as sexy as the SLS is, thats an issue for me. Soon to be 48, divorced, no kids
