Wink 560sl aluminum end tanks

Does anyone make a 560sl radiator that does not have the always leaking plastic end tanks (epoxy seal breaks), but is rather all aluminum?

thanks

I'm not aware of an all-aluminum radiator for that model, but I must say yours is the first example I'm aware of of the plastic end tanks leaking. I owned a 560SL for 6 years and never had a problem, nor ever heard of anyone else experiencing it.

The leak is not from the tank itself, the leak is at the junction of the tank and the core.

The tank is plastic, the core is aluminum, they expand at different rates from heat, and the stress of the uneven expansion ultimately breaks the epoxy seal between the two--an extremely common problem with all recent radiators using plastic tanks, from BMW's to Fords

This was almost never the source of a leak in the days when radiators were all metal, that is why I am looking for an all metal radiator

I guess I can go to one of the custom fabricators and have a duplicate made, but it will cost me a lot I am sure since it will be a one-off design.

I can't imagine that the engineers were unaware of the unequal expansion issue and didn't make accommodations for it. That maybe why I, for one, never had that problem on any of my MBs, Bimmers or Fords. Perhaps, your particular radiator is defective?

maybe so, perhaps it is vibration related.

Nevertheless, I have never seen this leaking problem in all of my collector cars from the 60's (corvettes, challengers, pontiacs, fords) --all of which have solid brass or aluminum radiators, but have only seen it in my
F150, BMW, and 560--all with plastic side tanks, all leaking from the junction area of the side tank and the core, not from the core corroding

Interesting. So far, besides the materials I only see one other common denominator, but it doesn't seem relevant.

common denominator could be me and my relationship with Mr. Murphy, otherwise known as bad luck
