Question Flat Hood Badge - ABS Plastic VS Metal

Hi All,

I have read that no authentic flat hood badges are made of metal but are made of ABS plastic. Is this true?

If so, other than it being made of different material.. Whats the downfalls of using either?

I am looknig at replacing my gunsight as someone has tried to rip it off

Thanks in advance

The flat badge they would give you at the dealership is too wide for the opening so it sits on top of the hood rather than down in that indention. If you don't get the gasket with it you could scratch the paint. It is plastic which may be better because it would just pop off if someone tried to pry it up.

The metal ones, or "white star", use the same base as yours but they refit them with a small emblem to fill the hole where the original stand-up star was mounted. It fits in the indention but if your concern is someone stealing the ornament and causing damage, they would have to pry this one out just like they would have to do to your car now, unless they settle for the star. I figure the star is $23 to replace and most vandals will take it and walk away causing no damage to the car itself.
