Hi everyone. just got my first MB today, a lovely blue 1975 280c. I will be posting some questions from the most basic to very advanced and I will be fully appreciative of your help. Please bare with me as I find my way around this beautiful creature. I found the Benzworld forum through a few google searches and i've already learned a bit by skimming the posts.

thanks! nice to be here

My first day with the car and I'm already noticing some things that will need my attention immediately. I need to do some work around the battery because it seems that the negative ground cable casing has deteriorated and needs to be replaced, the battery is not securely fastened in place, and the battery connectors are loose so the battery is decharging quickly (meaning the car didn't start this evening.)

Also, I need to investigate the door locks on the car - I didn't realize the car came with auto locks (albeit the slowest I've ever seen)... I thought i was going crazy when I noticed that the locks were open because I know that I relocked them when I saw them open. It takes a looooong while for them to gradually rise, my guess would be a snails pace over a few minutes, not seconds.

The car interior is generally in immaculate shape - It will be my first project car although I think it just needs some minor work & TLC all around (it was running fine when i tested it yesterday and bought it/drove it today.)

I believe that my car is a "C" model but I'm not 100% sure. Is there a good guide to the options available and differences between the 1975 models? Can it really be true that these cars only take regular leaded gas? (the tank was full when i bought it today, so I don't need to fill it for a while... especially since it won't start now.) Can you recommend a good reference book to service it myself? Also, do you know any good websites or blogs that document repairing these old MBs? I'm extremely eager to learn by fixing it myself, I know this car has a lot of life in it and I want to keep it in good health.

I will post pictures when I have a chance
