e320 2004 xeon bulbs headlight leveling/cornering failure

I wonder if anyone can help, I have an E320cdi 2004 and the dash reports a cornering headlamp failure. My driverside headlamp points down and to the right. My near side headlamp goes up and down on startup but no longer left to right but does appear to point correctly ahead.

Does the problem sound like sensors? if so which ones and where are they located.

can I put a voltage accross the headlamp motors to test if light assembly is OK, if so which conector pins to use, I have 2 sets the top one with four wires and the bottom with 3

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid the cornering lamp issue is about internal wring failure at the headlight unit. This is typical for early cornering lights on a W211. The levelling issue sounds like the levelling motor is stuck to the low position. This is probably mechanical, the levelling motor has no sensors but calibrates itself by driving the lights fully down and then running the stepper motor a programmed number of steps up (taking into account suspension level sensors for appropriate tuning).

I don't think you can easily run the motors from an external DC source.

Post same on our 2005

did you ever find a inexpensive alternate??
My 05 fails when its under 70 degrees. above and the stupid thing works fine.
had a shop look at it and said 1500 to replace. too much!
thinking of maybe replacing with the non-motion units, any ideals??
