94 E320 ignition switch removal - need help

I've removed the lower dash and have the ignition switch exposed. To remove it, it looks like you twist and pull the whole switch and cylinder but right close to the steering column it looks like there is a pin that has to be removed. Can anyone tell me how to remove the pin so the entire ignition switch will remove? I thought it might be a spring loaded pin that you push on but it won't push in at all. The only other option I see is to drill the pin out so you can remove the entire switch. Without pulling the entire thing out I don't see how you could possibly get at the screws that hold just the switch half of the switch and cylinder together. Can anyone please help?

Try doing a search or asking on the W124 forum, that's the car you have.
