Conventional wisdom says to stick with the MB coolant or the ZEREX equivalent. That is what I use in my Benz and so do most others on this forum.
That said, a "conventional" coolant such as PRESTONE that is designed for aluminum engines would probably cause no damage. Almost all automotive radiators today also use plastic components, one of the reasons given for using only MB coolant. I use PRESTONE in my Dodge truck with it's plastic radiator tanks. Now has 136000 miles with no cooling system problems.
BUT ... the difference in cost is small and the peace of mind is large so my advice is to use the right stuff if you can. Are you located where access to MB or ZEREX is difficult?
By the way, don't let the discourteous replies you receive from some discourage you from posting questions.
