Has anyone used PCMCIA USB Card with Benz?

Folks,

My media is stored on an USB drive. My 2010 E350 has a PCMCIA slot. I am thinking of buying a PCMCIA USB Card:

http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-2-Port-USB-Card-TU2-H2PC/dp/B000FI77VC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1265844000&sr=8-2
I am wondering if anyone has tried it or if you see any potential problems of using it?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Regards,
Peter

Thumbs down PC Card to USB NO-NO

I bought one from Amazon to try. It does not work. The on/off comand knob above the slot prevents the card from being completely inserted.
There is no contact between the card and the reader.

I got a PCMCIA card to USB adapter that fits the slot and almost flush with the fascia, but it does not work. I am not certain, but I think it is marked "32 bit" and the manual says to use 16 bit PCMCIA memory cards, which may be the problem. Anyone solved this problem? Hard to believe M-B installs PCMCIA hardware in vehicles in 2012.

I have music on USB flashdrives that I play on my home theatre and would like to use them in the car.

Rather than spending the money to get a 16-bit card to try out to adapt old to new technology, may I suggest an alternative which should work nicely.
Buy the 4GB or 8GB Centon Craze rechargeable USB mp3 player. It's about the size of a USB thumb drive. It works just like any USB drive with plug/play/drag/drop, it also works as an mp3 player with EQ and all other "flavors" and screen display. Price is low $20 to $50 when you shop around. You can plug it into your home theater as your other USB drive. In the car, connect the headphone out to the radio's Auxiliary input.
Search for "centon craze" online. My 8GB Centon came in blue color.

Thanks! That looks like not a bad solution. Can you control the MP3 player with the COMAND system in the car?

No. But what's the use of Comand?
The controls (volume, forward, rewind, pause, on, off, menu, submenu) are on the Craze mp3 player itself. Its small LCD screen scrolls songs' titles/Artists but that's useless because you already know what songs you stored on the player. Once you're used to the player, you don't even need to look to see what button to push.
Another alternative is to hook up a bluetooth headset to the Aux for use with a bluetooth iPod. You can "voice control" what you want to do. But it costs 10x more money. The bluetooth headset is small, portable. Plugging it into your home theater's Aux, you can play music on your iPod remotely.

Hmm... It does not sound as though that is a good solution for me. We have a "distracted driver" law in Alberta, and using the MP3 player to select music would be illegal. The COMAND allows you to select from the car controls, which is legal.

If I'm the governor of Alberta, for the ultimate road/highway safety, I'll make people carpool all the time so the passenger can control the Comand and the driver never gets distracted.
