Hello to all Mercedes fans!
My name is Sam from Holland..(yes the small country next to Germany)..
I'm a proud owner of a 500 SL from 1991, alle black leather interior en black paint. It has now 170.000 Kilometers.
My car is equiped with ADS...and it's working!!
- fully electric adjustable driver and passenger seat with memory
- electric adjustable steering wheel
- extra passengerseats in the back...(might come in handy driving with my kids)
I bought the car with a ticking noise comming from the engine. After checking the 16 oil tubes on the 2 cilinderheads...wich is a common problem....I found no issues that can cause the engine ticking.
What I did next is drain the engine oil en replace the engine oilfilter. Because of a small dent in de oilpan I decided to dismount the oilpan.
....At that moment a bigger problem was visible.......broken timingchain guides. So whats's next....??
After changing the timingchain and all the guides...( a hell of a job..but I managed to do it correctly) I was able to drive the car on the road.
...And Yes....a new problem occured.... With a warm transmission the automatic gearbox won't shift into reverse... Cold...no problem!
Because the car was not in use for 2 years by the previous owner I decided to change the autotrans. oil and filter.
All parts/fluids I used for this job were orderd on VIN number by the dealer.
I received 7 liters of transmissionfluid (includes oilchange on the Torque converter).
Afterwards checking (stupid I know) it appeared that the fluid I received was not applicable for my type of transmission (mine is a 722.353).
For all I've read on this magnificent forum, this gearbox is known for problems with the reversegear....But I'm going to try the correct specified fluid and see is the problem dissapears......or if a rebuild gearbox is the next option...
I'm really glad that I found this forum, it's been a great help!!!
Thanks to all!!...
I'm willing to answer any question at all.....because I learned a lot in the past weeks, about my car, the dealernetwork and all the Mercedes enthousiasts!!
Greetings from Holland...and all the best to the readers!!
