86 - 560SEL Cold Start Problem
I purchased an 86, 560 SEL with about 89000 miles from a family friend who has owned the vehicle for a number of years. It appears to be well maintained as there are no oil leaks and everything works. Well almost everything as there is a cold start issue that disappears after the first start of the day. I've hot-wired the cold start injector and it fires right up (stone cold engine) leading me to believe there is an electrical issue.
Having purchased the service manuals and following the trouble-shooting guide/wiring diagram, I have the following results: .5 volts to the cold start injector (should be at least 10v) and wiring between it and the N16/4 checks okay (including ground). Removing N16/4 and checking pin 12 indicates 12 volts, but pin 2 indicates 0 volts (according to the manual should have between 3-5 volts). Checking continuity between N16/4 and the Idle Speed Control relay (N8) is okay including its ground. Having no special tools other than a multi meter and some jumper wires, I am hesitant to replace the N8 relay due to its cost and not completely sure if I'm heading in the right direction.
Any ideas you folks have would be greatly appreciated..
